Therapy Services

Individualized Counseling

Many of my clients feel misunderstood and start to doubt themselves in the midst of major life changes. Despite what popular culture asserts, it’s tough being a middle aged man in this world. You are carrying the weight of responsibility in your family, you’re sandwiched between caring for your kids and worrying about your aging parents. Your wife is going through menopause and your relationship is strained.  Perhaps you both are contemplating divorce. You’re at a crossroads in your career- deciding between hanging on until retirement or exploring a major change.

These changes can leave you reeling, feeling like the ground beneath you has shifted. You might feel confused, frustrated, anxious or even depressed. A sense of loss and feeling out of control overwhelm you when you’re not distracted by the task at hand.

It can be hard to talk about these issues without feeling like a burden or because many men don’t have close male friends to confide in.

I’m here to help remind you of the man you once knew yourself to be and to build up the man you wish to become. Therapy with me is straightforward, conversational and encouraging, not confrontational. You won’t get psychobabble or a diagnosis of whatever label is popular on social media at the moment- just a supportive, guided conversation designed to bring out the best in you so you can move forward with changes in your life from a place of real confidence.

About Me

Meet William Walters, MA, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, EMDRIA Certified EMDR Provider

I accompany men as they walk through one of life's most challenging stages. I'm a good fit for men looking for a counselor with a light touch, not a heavy handed or confrontational style, with years of clinical and life experience. I'm here to offer patient, wise counsel with little helpful nudges. My intention is to listen for your higher self and readily engage with it so that it becomes more and more your norm.

My personal life experience prepared me for this work- having experienced much loss, facing death, starting over, and getting many second chances. I'm Christian, but I work with men of all faiths (or none at all), and invite you to bring whatever spirituality, philosophy or existential beliefs you have to this work.

FAQs

Your Questions Answered

What if someone in my life is encouraging me to go to therapy but I'm unsure I need it?

You don't have to work on anything you don't want to work on. I'm not here to tell you what your problem is and how you should change. I'm here to listen and help you explore difficult areas of your life and support any changes you want to make. I'm your consultant. We can meet for an initial consultation and talk about yours goals so you can decide if therapy would be helpful to you.

Do I have to be facing a major problem to benefit from therapy?

Absolutely not. Many people benefit from having someone outside their friends and family to confide in and be unfiltered with, especially in areas where they don't want to be judged or given unsolicited advice. Sometimes people just need a different perspective and confidential space to explore their own thoughts & feelings.

How do I know when I'm better and ready to graduate?

You'll come to a place of acceptance & confidence with yourself, you'll feel clarity around a decision you're making, or you'll feel more at peace with the changes in your life.
